Wired Woodmen
Greenwood Community Schools Team 8793
Drive Train Design: We have a custom REV drive train kit which we put together to make our drive train. We used Mecanum wheel as it has various advantage during competition. It has an ability to introduce fully omnidirectional movement onto drive train. All motors and servos are plugged into REV Expansion and Control Hub.
Claw Design: We have green rubber roller from REV attach to 3D printed claw green roller spins and grab one pixel at a time and drops into backstage to collect points. We have used continuous servo to spin roller so that it can grab pixel effectively. Arm Design: We used two arms, big and small arms. Big arm is operated by REV ultra planetary motor which can move both the side at 180 degrees. Small arm has a servo attach to it which can move at a certain position. Using arms, it is convenient to drop pixel on backstage. Hanging Mechanism: We used 4 stage Viper-Slide kit to hang our robot during endgame to score 20 points. Slide is operated by Go-BILDA battery. Airplane Launcher: We use 3D printed airplane launcher operated by servo that shoots plane in three different position to score 30, 20 or 10 points. Autonomous Program: We used A star algorithm for path finding. We used distance sensor mounted on left and right side of robot to detect team prop. We can detect team prop and drop pixel on spike mark and park. Today, team #8793 had the pleasure of visiting the Greensburg Honda Manufacturing plant. They hosted us for a day of STEM and career education. We finished the day by touring the facility, which was AMAZING! Here are some of our favorite moments:
*Tour of the plant* We got to see the manufacturing lines of the plant and saw how the cars were put together. *VR Painting* We got to use a VR headset to simulate painting a car door. The same program is used for new employees, and they need to practice until they get at least a 89% on the simulation. Our leader for this averaged a 94%. *Weld area* We saw an awesome video of this area, and were able to see it from afar in the manufacturing area. There are many sparks in the weld area, so we didn't get too close. Our guide in this area told us that right now they are working on the design and prototyping for cars at least 4 years in the future. Each robot does a step of about 43-50 seconds that goes together to make all the welds needed in the car. *A great moment to remember from the Honda Plant definitely would have to be the interactive activities where they separated everyone into four groups and then would take us to certain stations where we could learn of the numerous careers and devices that people at the Honda plant use everyday in their jobs. Overall it was a really radical experience. *Career Education* At the beginning, they let us choose a corner of the room from the four, and then told us those corners represented 1)school after HS, 2)2-year programs, 3)4-year college, 4)staying at home with parents. Students then went through a four year period, where they made life decisions, represented by money or debt. Throughout, we could see the many ways a person can get a job and be promoted, and that the more education and experience you have, the better job you can get. Of course, if you are a 4-year college student, you have to factor your school tuition debt into your plans! |
